What is the Difference Between P and O visa?

P-1 Visa for Athletes

Eligibility: Must be internationally recognized in their sport.

Aplicable: Available for individual athletes and teams.

Visa Duration: Up to 5 years for individuals (extendable to 10 years).

Employer: Must compete only for the petitioning employer or team.

Green Card Path: Direct Green Card applications may be difficult.

O-1 Visa for Top Athletes

Eligibility: Must be among the top of athletes in his/her discipline.

Aplicable: Primarily for individual athletes (teams do not qualify).

Visa Duration: Initially granted for up to 3 years, with 1-year extensions.

Employer: Multiple employers are allowed if a U.S. agent files the petition.

Green Card Path: Makes it easier to transition to an EB-1A Green Card.

What are the Requirements for an Athlete Visa?

The athlete must have achieved a significant level of recognition in their sport on a national or international scale.

Sustained Acclaim

Demonstrate athlete's recognition and achievements are not fleeting but are consistent and ongoing.

Written Consultation

A written consultation from an organization or peer group confirming the athlete's experience and recognition in their field.

Itinerary & Event Details

Detailed itinerary and supporting documentation to show the applicant’s planned activities in the U.S.

Contracts or Invitations

Proof of a contract with a U.S. sports league, team, or organization, or an invitation to participate in a significant competition or event.

Essential Support Personnel

If applicable, documentation that supports personnel are an integral part of the athlete's performance and cannot be easily replaced.
